By: Jane Morris

Have you ever wondered how to make paper flowers? It is easy and we will briefly explain the basics in this article. Of course, to make professional crepe paper

flowers you will need to invest in a paper flower-making book but we assure you it will be well worth every penny.

First, you need a book on how to make paper flowers the book must include the following things, step-by-step instructions, patterns and a picture of the completed flower. A good book will also include a few types of arrangements you can make. For example if you want to make paper flowers for your wedding it should include a few bridal bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres, hair pieces and even centerpieces for the alter and reception.

Alternatively, perhaps you would like a simple flower-making book on how to make centerpieces for your home and to give as gifts. Just make sure the book you purchase has specific instructions, pattern and a picture of the flower when it is finished we cannot stress the importance of that enough.

Once you have the type of book for the flowers or arrangements you want to make you will need to gather the supplies from around your home things such as a ruler, tape, shears, stapler, clear drying glue, wire cutters, pencil, assortment of colored markers, crayons, chalk and paint for added color, unique colors or shaded and two-toned flowers. You may need to purchase a few items but not too many. Then you will need to get your crepe paper we recommend a selection of colors and white so that you can create any color you want using your markers, paints, crayons or chalk.

As a beginner we suggest you start by making a fairly simple flower such as the small calla lily this flower only has two parts the petal and the leaves and of course you will make a stem with the floral wire and green floral tape. If you find that you are not happy with your completed flower, try it again sometimes it just takes a little getting used to. Many people are often afraid they will tear the crepe paper if they handle it too roughly or if you glue a leaf on backwards or upside down, things like that will happen even on occasion after you have been making crepe paper flowers for years. Do not give up just keep going and you will see how easy and fun it is to make crepe paper flowers.

Once you have made the flowers you can use the chalk, paint, markers or crayons to add a special touch of color to them if you want too. You can also use a little scented oil to give them a nice smell and even dip them in hot wax to give them a beautiful shine however, we don’t recommended the waxing for beginners.

When you are happy with the way your flowers look you can arrange them in a vase or container and display them on a table or counter so everyone who enters your home will see you learned how to make paper flowers.

Creative Crafts With Crepe Paper

By: Earnest R. Atherton

Is summertime boredom setting in? Wondering what to do after the spring cleaning projects unearthed several rolls of crepe paper that you had forgotten about, and you do not want to store again until you rediscover it next year? Several options for its taking care of it come to mind. You can throw it away while questioning your motives of keeping random things for years. You can bequeath it to a group of girls and let them decorate their room, princess style. You can experiment with how the dye runs when it gets wet, and figure out how to clean up the ink drips that accidentally stained the carpet. Or, best option yet, sit down with your kids and their friends and learn how to make crepe paper crafts.

Crepe Paper Flowers: Did you know that somewhere in the early 1900′s, paper flower making became an alternative to real flowers? People started placing them on the graves on Memorial Day because of far travel, or unavailability of real flowers. It seems it would have a little more meaning to those giving the flowers if they made them, too. A real gift of love and time. There are some fairly intrinsic designs, and simple ones too. Given some practice, beautiful flowers emerge. Roses, sweet peas, daffodils–to name a few. Enroll your kids in learning alongside you as you discover the art of crepe paper flower making. Make an online search to see which patterns you can download. After experimenting with the simple patterns, you can move onto those with more detail.

Crepe Paper Medallions: Set up a day that you can have relay races, or a field day with the neighborhood kids. Get some streamers and some colored card stock and make some ribbons the participants can take home. Cut a length of crepe paper, then fan it out in a circle to look like a tiny paper plate with a hole in the center. Cut a circle out of the card stock, slightly larger than the hole left by the paper streamer. Cut two lengths of ribbon to hang down, and glue the paper circle and the ribbon to the center of the “lace” edging of crepe paper. You can use different colors for different winning places. Use glue and glitter or markers to decorate each medallion. Once you’ve made the ribbons, let the games begin.

These are just a couple of ideas to use your left-over, or newly purchased paper streamers. Most of us enjoy the challenge of learning something new, and seeing something plain morph into something beautiful and creative.

You can make any flower and several projects for home décor, weddings, gifts and so much more all you need to do is buy crepe paper to get started and of course a book to help you get started. Making paper flowers is easy and enjoyable.

You can buy crepe paper online for a good price. There are several colors to choose from and crepe paper is excellent for making flowers it is strong and flexible which makes it easy to work with.

My favorite crepe paper is called “Cindus Silkrepe Folds Crepe Paper” this crepe paper is bleed resistant, fade resistant and fire resistant! Each sheet is 20 inches wide by 7.5 feet long that is a very large piece of crepe paper and each sheet of this crepe paper costs about $1.00 a sheet. Out of that one sheet you can easily make a dozen flowers.

Sheets of crepe paper can be used for more than just making flowers. The sheets can be used for wrapping paper, table clothes for birthday parties and weddings. It can also be used to make streamers by cutting long strips and gluing or taping them together to create a long piece of streamer.

Crepe Paper makes great decorations as well one of our favorite decorations made from crepe paper is an angel Christmas tree topper or you can display it all year long anywhere you like in your home it also makes a beautiful gift for just about anyone. It’s very easy to make – you will need a cone shaped piece of Styrofoam and a circle Styrofoam ball for the head and the crepe paper you can use any color you like. Just glue the head to the cone and attach the crepe paper. You can use an extra piece of paper to make the wings. Be sure to give your Angel a face and maybe some yarn hair. This is a quick and easy project that you can even make as a family holiday project with the kids or make them and sell them to earn extra money or as a fundraising item.

If you own or would like to start a crepe paper flower business you will need lots of sheets of crepe paper in a large assortment of colors to get started. The best place to sell your paper flowers and even crepe paper is at a craft fair.

Paper flower wind chimes are a favorite project of ours and they make beautiful additions to your home and treasured gifts. To make a paper flower wind chime you will need crepe paper in the colors you like, a flower making book and the supplies listed in the book.

There are so many things you can make with crepe paper. It is always a wise idea to buy crepe paper when it is on sale and stock up. Crepe paper if stored in a plastic container or even a bag and kept out of direct sunlight will last a very, very long time.
